Scott Horner, Ph.D.

Dr. Horner is a Managing Director at Middleland Capital where he is responsible for portfolio management and evaluating investment opportunities in agriculture and biotechnology. He currently also sits on the Board of Directors of Mycotechnology Inc., Plant Response Biotech, Blue Prairie Brands, and Benson Hill Biosystems, and is a Board observer on Advanced Animal Diagnostics, Vive Crop Protection, and Virgin Plants Inc.

Prior to joining Middleland, Dr. Horner was a Managing Director at Third Security, LLC, where he was responsible for assessing potential investments in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors. He worked with several of Third Security’s portfolio companies, providing business intelligence and operational support. During this period, he served on the Board of Directors of Synchrony Inc. (acquired by Dresser-Rand Corp.). In addition to portfolio management duties, he also took on interim operating roles within several portfolio companies, including President and CEO of Pinnacle Pharmaceuticals, VP Chemistry, Intrexon Corporation (NYSE:XON) and VP Business Development, Intrexon Corporation. Prior to joining Third Security, he was a founder and CSO at Pathologics, LLC, a point-of-care diagnostics company located in Rochester, NY.

Dr. Horner received his Ph.D. in Bioorganic Chemistry and an M.S. in Biophysics from the University of Rochester and a B.S. in Biochemistry from the State University of New York at Albany.
